ACCEPTABLE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTS

Almost all Canadian immigration programs require proof of proficiency in English. An individual’s proficiency may be determined by one of the two tests.

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), and
  • Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)

While most candidates are familiar with IELTS, less individuals write the CELPIP.

CELPIP tests may only be taken within Canada, whereas IELTS tests are held in various locations around the world, including Canada.

Individuals may choose to test in one or both official languages of Canada, French and English. For many programs, additional points will be awarded for knowledge of a second official Canadian language.
